The #1 thing for me when I'm pulling something apart to do a repair is to find something that confirms my diagnosis. Something I can see and put my finger on to say Boom, there it is, this will fix it. Well, got the head off the Mazda and I'm not seeing anything conclusive. All the cylinders and combustion chambers look very similar. No evidence of any one cylinder being washed with coolant.
