There are many tactics in politics that stand in proxy for a lack of logic. One so often trotted out is that you have to be part of the “sensible centre” to get elected and then the lobbyist insists that their issue is part of that “sensible centre”. The terminology itself is a sleight of hand in that to have a centre you must have two opposing ends.
